Nov. 6 to Nov. 10, 2023

Last week, everyone enjoyed celebrating PJ Day, sharing about their Halloween adventures,  and our bingo and books buddy class activity.  The 4th Graders were great leaders and mentors with our first-grade buddies as they played bingo and read stories!  I'm always proud of their exceptional leadership with the younger students!

This week, we have two fourth grade in-school events.  On Thursday, the Elm Creek Naturalist will be here to work with 4th graders in our Rush Creek Nature Area, and on Friday, 4th graders will participate in a bird house building workshop.  We look forward to these special events.

We will take time during this week to review the fall goals from October conferences.  Please look for a copy of your child´s goal coming home in the Wednesday folder.

*Reminder:  Continue to check and sign your student´s planner each night.  Your support with homework for math and reading is greatly appreciated!

*Remember, no school on Tuesday, Nov. 7, due to teacher workshops and the local bond referendum for Osseo Area School District #279.  For information on the upcoming bond referendum, here is the link:   Referendum Info. Link

Here are other areas of study for the week.

-Word work this week continues to focus on challenging plurals, and the test has been moved to Wednesday, Nov. 8.  Next week, word work will continue with a new Latin root.

-40 Book Challenge!  Students can bring their notebooks home to complete summary entries, and students should be at 12 to 13 books or more by the end of November to be on-track for the challenge.

WRITING:

Our next project will be to complete an essay titled ¨The Story of My Name¨.  A planning page will come home on Monday, Nov. 6, and should be completed by November 8 or 9 so that students can complete their final copy during class writing time.

Students will also use November writing prompts for daily and weekly writing practice during independent work time.

*Students continue to have time to work in Typing.com to develop and hone  keyboarding skills, and they continue reviewing cursive to develop their handwriting skills.

MATH:

- Division with remainders is the focus for the week, and students will participate in activities and games to develop this concept.  We'll begin to review Unit 2 next week, and the Unit 2 test is scheduled for next week as well.

- Students continue to work on speed for their multiplication facts.  Any extra practice at home is greatly appreciated.  We hope to have our class ice cream sundae party to celebrate our fact mastery sometime in November or December!
